Nietzsche seems to have a life-long obsession with Christianity, which he blames for the subversion of all noble values, and the corruption of the Western civilization. In the Antichrist, Nietzsche's basic claim is that Christianity is a perversion of the words of and practice of Jesus.
Nietzsche is a complex and paradoxical philosopher in many ways, and does not lend himself to reduction to a single judgment. Nor would Nietzsche wish for this, for such ‘comprehensive judgments’ are of the realm of the Enlightenment moralist, not the free-spirited individual, as Nietzsche saw the perfect Man. This collection both reflects and contributes to the recent surge of philosophical interest in The Antichrist and represents a major contribution to Nietzsche studies. Nietzsche regarded The Antichrist, along with Zarathustra, as his most important work.
